MESA CALLS FOR HALT ON GOTION UNTIL NATIONAL SECURITY QUESTIONS ARE ANSWERED

GREEN CHARTER TOWNSHIP, MI – The Mecosta Environmental and Security Alliance (MESA) has called on Green Charter Township officials to cease any further negotiations with Gotion, Inc. on the creation of a development agreement with the company until the standing national security questions are answered. Late last month, the U.S. Department of Treasury Committee on Foreign Investment in the U.S. (CFIUS)
determined that they did not have proper jurisdiction to conduct a review of the company, therefore
leaving many national security questions still unanswered. Gotion has not been “cleared”, contrary to
their company’s spin on the matter, they simply have not been investigated.
According to his biography on the World Economic Forum web site, Gotion President Li Chen is a
member of the C.P.P.C.C. of Bahoe District in Hefei City, China. The C.P.P.C.C. is part of the Chinese
Communist Party (CCP) united front system and is wholly controlled by the CCP.
The Gotion Articles of Association (their founding documents) require that the company carries out
“party activities in accordance with the Constitution of the Communist Party of China”, all the way down
to the “grass roots level of the Company.” This type of language, lack of transparency by the company,
the shroud of secrecy in which the project was pursued, along with many elected officials signing nondisclosure agreements to prevent public scrutiny of the deal have alarmed local residents whose voices
are being ignored by local officials who are now subject to a recall effort.
If Green Charter Township officials, who are all under recall, sign a binding Development Agreement with
Gotion, against the will of the local residents, this action would be unethical at best and possibly illegal.
